I just finished a 10 day juice fast...and I learned a lot about my body.
1) Find juice combinations you like....some combinations actually made me sick to my stomach.
2) I wasn't physically hungry...but there were times my mind was going crazy.
3)While it was easier to drink half of my juice in the morning, drink water during the day, and finish my juice in the evening....that wasn't the best option. I found the "mind hunger" stayed further at bay when I would space my juices out during the day.
4)Holy crap does your actual stomach shrink. Listen to your body. When you go back on solids you simply won't be able to eat as much in one sitting. LISTEN TO YOUR BODY. STOP when you are full....no matter if its just a few bites in.
5) I can NOT stand juiced kale...but I love juiced spinach.
6)It was absolute smart planning for me to make all of my juice for the day the night prior. I don't do well with room temp juices...they have to be cold.
7) My taste buds really have changed. Things do taste better to me.
8) I needed more calories than juicing alone afforded me. I got persistent nonstop full body muscle aces because my muscles were struggling to function with such a calorie minimal approach.
#8 was effectively the reason why I pulled out of the fast early. I am a nurse, and constantly moving for more than 10 hrs a day. I needed the muscle strength available more so than say an office worker. CPR on a patient is taxing already; if you add that on top of the muscle fatigue...it isn't a good combo. I can't do my patients justice when I simply don't have the energy to function.
HOWEVER, Now that I am back to food....we are eating about a 95% plant based diet...and it has been delicious. I purchased the "Forks Over Knives" cookbook...and it is FULL of great recipes. I actually got a weeks work the groceries for two adults...including breakfast, lunch, and dinner....for $100.00.
While I wanted to do the fast for 40 days...it just wasn't a smart idea. Am I disappointed in myself? Not in the least....I learned a lot about my body in just those short days. Also, had I not done the juice fast.....we wouldn't have moved to a mostly plant based diet. I'm hoping this new plant based diet is what is going to help me in losing the weight and keeping it off.
Here is to a new beginning.

A true independence day.
Today is July 4th. Independence Day in the US.
A new independence day for me.
This morning I am 299.2 lbs.
I can't remember exactly the last time I weighed in the 200's. Honestly. I'm sure I could look back at pictures...probably from around 3-5 years ago...and find one where I was in the 200's.
This is a new birthday, a new independence day...because this is the last time I'll leave the 300's.
I'm making a commitment to myself....not just an interest. A commitment.
This is a process, and I must breathe through it.

Juice Update!
Small Juice update:
Before the juice fast, I was 310. On my home scale.
Today is the morning of day 4, I am down to 301.4lbs.
Day one I had headaches, and my mind was racing with thoughts of food. I was seriously going to cave on night one.
Day two: I had some minor headaches, but wasn't hungry.
Day three: I started to get really cold while drinking my juices, but wasn't hungry.
Here is to success, one day at a time.
